It's Winston Wednesday

Winston and Roxxanne have arrived.... hop on over to Winston's blog and continue the adventure.
Now just because of Winston and Henry and all the other dogs I have loved I want to post this lovely award from Monica. I know you will want to visit her blog too.

In the next few days I will be passing it on to others. For now I have shown it to Henry and told Winston about it. Winston is off on his great adventure, so he will have to read about it when he has time.

ILLUSTRATION FRIDAY ~ RESCUE

For this week's Challenge I chose three of the frames from my original online story of Winston the Wonderhound. The real Winston was our loveable rescued beagle and he became the subject of an ongoing online story.
In these two frames he has become trapped in a castle moat and is hanging on for dear life at the edge. Just when it looks like he will never make it up on to dry land, several friendly fish come along and bump bump bump him right up over the edge.

Once on land he finds a distressed castle cook and after hearing her sad tale, decides to be her hero with the help of his little hedgehog friend Roxxanne.

If you want to see how he got into this predicament in the first place I have a blog of his adventures ( which I have to get back to) at Adventures of Winston the Wonderhound. That link will take you to a page where you may have to scroll to the bottom to get to this point. In a few weeks I should have time to update the story and post it in another form that is easier to follow.

Winston Wednesday ~ Chapter VI

(AUTHOR'S NOTE: to save you all from having to go back into the depths of this blog I have archived all of Winston's Adventures on a separate blog. Just as it was before, it creates a new area, but at least all the chapters will be connected to one another and you can easily follow them RIGHT HERE)

The chase was on. Not to let her fears take over, the cook popped Roxxanne into her apron pocket and followed Winston who was following the dragon. As they might have noticed if they had looked out the window.....night was beginning to fall.

The dragon led the trio on a merry chase and disappeared into the caves below the castle.

In the caves it was even darker. Dampness and cobwebs surrounded the cook, Roxxanne and Winston.
Ahead of them they could hear the dragon's heavy footsteps. It bellowed loudly from time to time, as if to scare them away.
There was possibly only one other thing that was more fearsome. The Queen's anger. So they kept on the trail.

Winston the Wonderhound ran on ahead with the cook and Roxxanne close behind.

Does the cook have anything in her pocket that can help them now.
Anything at all? Anything besides Roxxanne?

WINSTON WEDNESDAY ~ Chapter IV

So, what was it that caused the giant commotion and unearthly roaring.

OF COURSE IT WAS THE DRAGON!!!

"If you are back for more china, you are too late," Winston tried to explain.

But before those words were barely out of his mouth the huge beast roared a smelly, hot, smoky roar right at Winston and Roxxanne.

"I don't know what you could want now...." the cook began, but before she could finish, the dragon roared again...and then began to hiccup so loudly that the castle walls began to shake.

With another ROARRRRR at the three astounded individuals the dragon turned and vanished down the stairs to the cellars and caves below the castle.

"Should we follow it?" Winston wondered aloud.

"You can't be serious, " said the cook.

But Winston was serious and he chased after the dragon as fast as his little beagle/bassett legs would allow.

Be sure to stayed tuned each Wednesday for more. And here is a side note: Is it just me, or does that dragon look like it was laughing?

WINSTON WEDNESDAY ~ Chapter IV

Upon entering the castle the cook took Winston and Roxxanne directly to the huge kitchen...the scene of the crime.
Pieces of golden china and fragile crystal were strewn across the marbled floor.
"Oh how terrible," Roxxanne was shaken by the horrible destruction.

"Yes," added Winston, "terrible indeed!"

"TERRIBLE YOU SAY!!!!! TERRIBLE INDEED~" a shrill yet booming voice echoed through the great expanse of the kitchen.

There in front of the tragic trio stood the Queen. Queen Mellameen, to be exact, and she was not in a good mood.
"What in the BIG WIDE WORLD of my PERSONAL QUEENDOM happened here?" she demanded.

"Oh, your majesty, " stammered the cook, " I am so sorry about all this mess." She took a deep breath and began to explain to the queen how the huge beast (dragon) had burst into the kitchen while she was preparing the Queen's birthday dinner, and had gobbled up all the fine china and crystal.

"And, your Majesty, I am sorry to say he has also eaten your beautiful soup tureen, ladle and all."

"What???? YOU'VE LOST MY ROYAL GOLDEN BOWL? Surely for this your head will roll!"

As you can see the queen did not take the news lightly and as Winston and Roxxanne and the cook stood shuddering at this last exclamation from the angry monarch, another more terrifying noise was heard.

WINSTON WEDNESDAY ~ Chapter III

On the way to the castle... a rather long walk, the cook began to retell her sad story.

"I was working on the Queen's birthday dinner and had all the fine golden china ready to place on the great table in the great hall for the great dinner."

Here, she stopped for a minute, shed a tear or two and then continued. " There was a sudden crash as the kitchen door was smashed in and there right in front of me was a huge creature with HUNGRY eyes and teeth as big as I have ever seen. This creature seemed not to be interested in the fine food I was preparing, but in the golden china and glittering crystal."

Winston and Roxxanne had stopped too, to listen and comfort the cook as she told them how the dragon had not only gobbled up all the fine china, but succeeded in swallowing the Queen's golden soup tureen WHOLE!

As the trio continued up the hill to the castle, the cook recounted what happened next...... ( ah tune in NEXT Wednesday as we enter the castle and find out what the cook's fate will be if she can't rescue the Queen's china!)

WINSTON WEDNESDAY ~ Chapter II

"We can help you," said Winston. "Roxanne and I have had many adventures and some close escapes. I am sure we can work something out with this dragon."

"Well," the cook thought for a while, "alright, maybe, since you are both from the animal world you might be able to help me."

Winston looked proud. Roxxanne looked worried. Just the same they followed the cook up to the castle. Roxxanne preferred a bumpy ride to the long walk as her little legs could only cover small amounts of ground at one time.

Who knows what they will find. That is, what exactly, besides all the broken pieces of the china that didn't get eaten. Worse yet.... would THEY get eaten.

WINSTON WEDNESDAYS

Having been Bumped right out of the moat, Winston and Roxxanne found themselves directly in front of a tearful young lady.  Although they were already dripping wet, her tears threatened to keep them from drying off at all.

"What is the matter?" Winston asked.

"I have such a HUGE problem," replied the young lady.  " A DRAGON has broken into the kitchen at the castle, where I am the cook. "

"Wow!" Winston was amazed.  "Is it still there?"
"Y...Y... YES!" sobbed the cook.  "And it is EATING all the fine china!"
"Bummer." Roxxanne had to put in her two cents.

"And, if I can't get all that china back before tonight the Queen will have my head!"

"Oh," said Winston, " she wouldn't do that .... would she?"

"She certainly would," the cook wiped her eyes with the edge of her apron, "and tonight is her birthday party.  She plans to serve soup from her Royal Golden Soup Tureen."

"And, I take it that was eaten too." Winston guessed.

"Absolutely," replied the cook,"along with the silver ladle and all the fine crystal.  What am I going to do?"

...........good question...... tune in next Wednesday.

Working sketch for this segment.

WINSTON WEDNESDAYS - Mergers and Acquisitions

For some time I have been neglecting to post to my other blog... Winston the Wonderhound. Today I was reading Kathy Weller's blog and she mentioned that she might consider merging two of her blogs. I had been thinking the same thing, and although Winston's story is a rather long and complex one, I am still considering bringing him into this blog. When simplifying seems to be the order of the day, I think it could work.

So here, I will introduce Winston the Wonderhound...and perhaps he will continue his adventures right here along with my other posts.

To make a long story shorter.... Winston and his hedgehog friend Roxxanne ended up floating in a balloon basket over the ocean. Presently they realized the balloon was rapidly losing air, and they were quickly dumped into the moat of a rather large castle.

Struggling to climb out of the slippery slopes they were helped by some friends who were not accustomed to having dogs and hedgehogs in their way. BUMP! and Winston and Roxxanne were tossed above to dry land.

And that is where I will leave our two friends for today... but tune in again soon and we can find out what was waiting to greet Winston and Roxxanne when they "landed."
